Muse, every day I disguise food into looking like something that it’s not. My favorite trick, though, is to take something frozen, put it in a wonderful casserole dish, and pretend that I made it! LOL! Not really. Mr. Magpie catches me every time.
XO,
Sheila
P.S. You’ve got the wrong link hooked up to Gollum’s site. I persisted and found this one!
haha Sheila you are hilarious, Muse I do exactly the same as Shelia but with cakes not casseroles, I have even been known to throw some flour in my hair and on my pinny for extra effect. but alas Vanni knows me to well. great post Muse, Happy Weekend.
Flour in the hair? REALLY? Oh that’s good! LOL
my goodness girl…where ever did you get that photo? I love it …LOVE IT!!!
It reminds me of my mom’s cat. She is not only cross-eyed…but she does not walk on all 4′s…she walks on her two back legs…and her “arms” are up like a scary monster! it is a silly sight to see! My kids think she is a freaky kitty! lol
I hope you have a great weekend!
I love to cook and host dinner parties. Rarely do I make the exact same meal twice; I usually cook and prepare things from memory and then add a little different something everytime. Yup, I play with my food
Usually I don’t name my meals, I just tell my family, “Remember the gazpacho we had the other night? This one’s kind of like it, but I just added some mint and a sprinkle of vermouth.”
Muse, my dad always makes up some excuse or other for not going anywhere, we used to frog march him out of the house and into the car to take him to my sons school christmas production which was a 60mile drive from my parents house and he complained the whole way, but when he got there he always thoroughly enjoyed it so I know that if we could just get him on the aeroplane he would be fine lol, your comment had me in fits of giggles, always nice to have a visit from you my friend. ps My crazy blogger camera is Nikon D60 (it’s a new gift from number one son and I am having lots of fun playing with it
). hugs, Kathy.
Oh yeah!
A lot of the things that I cook are “somethings”!!
One in particular I called “healthy”. Just healthy.
Made of bow tie pasta, green beans, onions, tuna fish, olive oil, basil leaves, mozzarella cheese, and other spices.
Everybody loved it! I called it healthy, and they ate it! I still cook it every Tuesday!
)
The cake we made for the wedding shower was a combination of recipe, improv and we named it on the spot. I did rename a chicken wing recipe I snagged from Rachel Ray – they are supposed to be called peanut butter and jelly wings – no way was the fam going to go for that! So I just said they were called sweet & savory wings. Only AFTER they ate them and raved did I tell them the ingredients! Kathy (love the picture! what a smart kitty)
Every meal I make is a mystery
Mornin’ Muse…my favorite thing to play with is rice. I add anything I have left over to rice and call it Rice Devine. I always smile when my kids ask for THE RECIPE ….my Rice Devine is ALWAYS different..every single time. As long as I have rice and a can of Creme of Mushroom soup and a few leftovers, I’m doing good.
By "Creative cooking" that's how I prepare meals.
Recipes… are merely a guideline!
Nothing is ever made exactly the same twice, much to the dismay of my hubby who always says.."This is so good, I hope you wrote down how you made it"
My reply is usually " Nope, you better savor every bite, cause it will NEVER taste like this again"
After Christmas, I once used leftover twice baked potatoes, honey baked ham, corn pudding & cheese ball to create one of the best pots of potato soup ever!!
Happy Foodie Friday! Have a great weekend ~ Susan
hubby is the one who disguises meals, but they are always delicious.
I’m praying
This is too funny!Happy Foodie Friday! I guess my meals are always in disguise..I can’t cook hahahaha!!
Thanks for the informtion on my blog Muse!
Love you, Have a wonderful weekend!
Correction…information lol. Need my glasses..lol
~hugs~
Done lots of disguising. Even named a few. They were things that I liked though.
Muse, I have accidently made Cinnamon Chili. Yeah, it was really bad. What I thought was chili powder was Cinnamon. I tried my best to get it out as quickly as possible and cover it with chili powder and other spices. I went ahead and served the chili and my family made comments that it tasted different. After my confession I ordered pizza.

I don’t do a recipe when I make most of my soups. And for disguising, well I cooked venison one time and had to tell my daughter in-law that it was beef because she always said she wouldn’t touch it, LOL .She ate it and I never to this day have told her any different.
I never cook the same way twice. It’s all a deep dark mystery to me, dearest Muse.
Like many of your readers, my meals are always mysteries. I rarely ever have everything I need for a recipe and just make it up as I go!!!
I have truly enjoyed reading the others comments. Truth be known, I find myself sadly lacking in the culinary department. I am known as Betty Bland around these h’yah parts (said in best Southern accent). I have always depended on the kindness of strangers (well, church women) for bean and cornbread meals to serve that man God gave me. I do bake, now that’s a different story.
Hope your new assignment is going well,
Theresa @ Cottage Violets
I’m a boring, follow the recipe kind of gal in the kitchen. But I like Sheila’s idea!
My best dishes have been named “Something From Nothing” by all of the amazed folks who had the pleasure of eating them!!!
I made my own salsa that is the closest I have got.Moms salsa tee hee the boys like it.
Thank you for always stopping by and leaving nice comments. And a big hug for grabbing my button.
sorry, no cooking here!
but I love that photo of the cat, cheese and mouse!
I only use recipes for baking. When people ask for my recipe they think I don’t want to tell them, but I really don’t use them!
I tried to write one down for my baked clams and burnt the oil and garlic while I was writing..:(
