  • ~A Wee Bit of Fabric~

I am not really sure that you can put a specific design name to The Painted Nest. Our cottage doesn’t fall into one style category, for it reflects not only our farm life…but our outside interests. (click pics to enlarge~if you dare!) Items we have gathered on our travels here and abroad…fill our home…as well as wondrous treasures passed from generation to generation. And there are handmade treasures that tell secret stories.

  • ~Thankful Thursday~

(pictures follow) We are thankful that a marvelous Christmas season was had…one that allowed all of our family to be together, sons, daughters, grandchildren and my husband’s father.  Dad has been in the hospital for weeks now and we miss him. We found out today that he has begun to bleed in his stomach again. The prognosis is not good. Our hearts are low.  We think back to the last times we were all together…Christmas. A season of love. Very [...]

  • ~Winter Dreams~

We are abuzz with excitement… For in the  midst of winter deep…

  • ~The Cycle Begins~

Farming begins with the love of the land…

  • ~Sleep Little Princess~

She is my angel… A light from above… Her laughter is as sweet… As a gentle  turtledove.

  • ~I Dream~

I dream…yes, I dream of sounds; fish splashing, birds chirping, darting to and fro…I dream of the lake…the sound of our boat churning…the grandchildren’s laughter as they swim…All those lovely sounds. Then, I dream of scents. The lush aromas of lovely gardens that have my mark…of raw wood that has aged for decades

  • ~ Boudoir’s Cry For Help~

Once upon a time, (well, not so very long ago), a lovely hotel, cried out for help. They had an excellent staff…the cuisine was impeccable…their amenities were unsurpassed. All this was being offered to the public for a fantastic price.  And yet, they obviously needed something for their bookings had begun to fade. It was quite clear, from this designer’s viewpoint, the rooms (while wonderfully maintained) were dated and not in a good way. The traditional qualities of the suites, the lobby and [...]

  • ~Snow Beauty~

Searching for beauty… When you are so very tired of snow and ice… Is a long and arduous task…

  • ~The Cottage Awaits Spring~

Here I sit. Out my cottage window is a winter wonderland of sorts…icy drapes, snuggle my evergreens.  Here I sit. I long for warmth on my face…I long to walk in my beloved woods.

Yard sales…stock sales… There are treasures everywhere you look.

  • ~Almost Home~

Official snow count…40 inches. Farming is hard work in the best of weather, but in winter…the true love of the craft comes to light.  There is no one else in this world that has my undying adoration, than my beloved.

  • ~It Is Official~

After five years of dating, my youngest son has asked for the hand of his love! What a wonderful dinner party we had. As a celebration, he cooked for everyone (for those of you who know this Muse, he get’s that from his dad!)

  • ~Yearn For The Urn~

Weathered? yes. Worn? yes. Forgotten? never.

  • ~Seasons Do Change~

Do you recall the warmth of the sun… The gentle breezes… The chirping of feathered friends? Do you recall the sound of the water… The bubbling brooks… Or the swishing of the lake?

  • ~Muse of Dreams~

As I sit here, nestled and warm, within my studio walls…I peer out onto several feet of freshly fallen snow.  And no matter how much angst it has caused…one has to recognize the beauty it inheritantly possesses.
