I am not really sure that you can put a specific design name to The Painted Nest. Our cottage doesn’t fall into one style category, for it reflects not only our farm life…but our outside interests. (click pics to enlarge~if you dare!) Items we have gathered on our travels here and abroad…fill our home…as well as wondrous treasures passed from generation to generation. And there are handmade treasures that tell secret stories. Did you like this? Share it:Tweet

My Response To The Author Of When Least Expected
I whole~heartedly agree.Words can poison, words can sting, words can crush…if they are used with ill will and malice. And yet, the same pen can create love, joy, beauty and prose….it can spill words onto parchment so eloquent…the reader is taken to tears…The difference lies within the author, the writer, the user…and that is indeed a power that can be mind chilling and yet so satisfying for the soul.Love,The Muse Did you like this? The little parlor in The Painted Nest, is waiting… she lingers between fall and winter. Thanksgiving will find her adorned in deep rust reds. Her memory table drawer will be redone… with new treasures of family heritage. In this old room, new memories will be made. New pillows will adorn her feather sofa. Little hearts filled with expectation will giggle and shout. I love the word “home”, don’t you? Did you like this? Share it:Tweet

(pictures follow) We are thankful that a marvelous Christmas season was had…one that allowed all of our family to be together, sons, daughters, grandchildren and my husband’s father. Dad has been in the hospital for weeks now and we miss him. We found out today that he has begun to bleed in his stomach again. The prognosis is not good. Our hearts are low. We think back to the last times we were all together…Christmas. A season of love. Very [...]

As I sit here, nestled and warm, within my studio walls…I peer out onto several feet of freshly fallen snow. And no matter how much angst it has caused…one has to recognize the beauty it inheritantly possesses. Did you like this? Share it:Tweet

“Tablescape Tuesday” ~ Picture
White dishware can offer so many options… Each holiday or event can be celebrated with basic pieces of white china or stoneware. For this Christmas table, the colors of silver and blue are combined with white to create this modern setting…the objective…to create an effect that would play off the branches (seen in the vases)… Add some wispy white feathers, blue and white snowflake tablecloth, miniature tea lights,(sprinkled with gold glitter) and a few silver ornaments…voila, the table becomes an [...]
My First “Trash to Treasure Tuesday” ~ Picture
MMM…what is it? Perhaps an old vintage stove’s vent trim… The Muse loves circles…so as soon as it was “spied” for .25, it was soooo purchased on the spot! LOL We can all agree, this needs work! Paint brushes to the ready…(nothing is safe at the Painted Nest)! Copper, gold, and antique white…Paint on….wiped off…over & over (what fun!) And then at last…Inspiration! Once upon a time, (well, not so very long ago), a lovely hotel, cried out for help. They had an excellent staff…the cuisine was impeccable…their amenities were unsurpassed. All this was being offered to the public for a fantastic price. And yet, they obviously needed something for their bookings had begun to fade. It was quite clear, from this designer’s viewpoint, the rooms (while wonderfully maintained) were dated and not in a good way. The traditional qualities of the suites, the lobby and [...]

Here is a little sitting area, at our home, ”The Painted Nest”. We use it mostly as a place to put on and take off our shoes. The chair, a vintage flea market find for $2.00, was in bad shape visually, but quite sound, structurally. So, The Muse was quick to grab this treasure! Did you like this? Share it:Tweet
