  • ~Rough Design Sketch~

The next step will be to add the color…fabrics, paint, etc. ~which are leaning in the aqua blue and butter gold family. I am going to use colored pencils in my hand sketch. If it is acceptable, then I will move on to my computer aided drawing tablet and begin the real life rendering. What do you think? From traditional to contemporary… Design takes many paths… Which path is your home on?

  • ~There Once Was A Sofa~

There once was a sofa…a sweetheart of a gal, who loved denim. Her favorite skirt was denim too…with a bit of tassel and fluff. Can you catch a peek? (Plain to see she is a cottage farm gal, what high society folk call~unpretentious.

  • ~A Wee Bit of Fabric~

I am not really sure that you can put a specific design name to The Painted Nest. Our cottage doesn’t fall into one style category, for it reflects not only our farm life…but our outside interests. (click pics to enlarge~if you dare!) Items we have gathered on our travels here and abroad…fill our home…as well as wondrous treasures passed from generation to generation. And there are handmade treasures that tell secret stories.

  • ~I Dream~

I dream…yes, I dream of sounds; fish splashing, birds chirping, darting to and fro…I dream of the lake…the sound of our boat churning…the grandchildren’s laughter as they swim…All those lovely sounds. Then, I dream of scents. The lush aromas of lovely gardens that have my mark…of raw wood that has aged for decades

  • ~ Boudoir’s Cry For Help~

Once upon a time, (well, not so very long ago), a lovely hotel, cried out for help. They had an excellent staff…the cuisine was impeccable…their amenities were unsurpassed. All this was being offered to the public for a fantastic price.  And yet, they obviously needed something for their bookings had begun to fade. It was quite clear, from this designer’s viewpoint, the rooms (while wonderfully maintained) were dated and not in a good way. The traditional qualities of the suites, the lobby and [...]

  • ~The Cottage Awaits Spring~

Here I sit. Out my cottage window is a winter wonderland of sorts…icy drapes, snuggle my evergreens.  Here I sit. I long for warmth on my face…I long to walk in my beloved woods.

  • ~One Little Closet To Rule Them All~

Oooops! Forgot to take a true BEFORE~. But close your eyes and imagine the closet without the rich blue… Ok, that was easy enough! As you can see…the closet, all white, needed a serious design lift. So, out came the paint brushes and the paint.  In the Muse’s cottage, if you stand still, long enough you are apt to get painted (that is simply a legend…a fable~one that has some basis of truth). lol

  • ~Her Chair Was Just Right~

Here is a little sitting area, at our home,  ”The Painted Nest”. We use it mostly as a place to put on and take off our shoes. The chair, a vintage flea market find for $2.00, was in bad shape visually, but quite sound, structurally. So, The Muse was quick to grab this treasure!

  • ~Design Dissection: Vignette~

Today let’s look at this table’s vignette.  Almost all of us, at one time or another, have had an opportunity to create a buffet~or serving station. What can you do, in order to avoid, the dreaded and ho~hum “runway” look, which entails mind numbing miles of flatness.

  • ~Tablescape Thursday~
